Gloria Should NOT Resign

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The CBCP released their statement yesterday calling for the government to lead the battle against the corruption and for the country to continue it’s search for the truth. They did not ask for GMA to resign, and I agree with the CBCP on this particular issue. Let’s take a step back and analyze where we are now because in reality asking GMA to resign is simply the easy way out. It’s lazy for the opposition and the civil service groups to keep on clamoring for the president to resign. We have the impeachment process and that’s where we should focus on. We have to make the system work for us and not the other way around.

A Numbers Game
Yes - the administration will not allow an impeachment complaint to move forward once it reaches the House of Representatives. Why? Because if something like that hits the Senate, it’s almost safe to say that GMA will get impeached. The problem is that we simply don’t have the numbers in the lower house. That’s actually our fault since we elected congressmen who are easily paid off by Pork Barrel allocations. The question now is - what should we do? The answer? People Power.

New People Power
I’m not saying that people march to EDSA and stage a rally until GMA resigns. That will NOT WORK. GMA is a master of politics and I’m pretty sure that they can come up with a multitude of PR campaigns to make sure that the Filipino people’s fervor for change will eventually die down. They will continue to malign and destroy the reputation of all the witnesses that come out to attack them. That’s the nature of Philippine politics - one big PR battle.

If you want GMA out and you want change then don’t go to EDSA. Go to your local municipalities and keep on shouting until your local officials hear you. Hell, you might even want to stage rallies in the houses of your congressmen, mayors, and governors. Hold them accountable to their DUTY TO REPRESENT YOU. Make the process work for you and don’t just wish that GMA will just give up. Remember that they are YOUR VOICE and if you don’t let them know how you feel then there’s no way they will speak for you when the times come to make that crucial vote.

Make the process work for you. Besides, it will taste much sweeter if she gets impeached rather than her resigning, hehe.

OMFG. Hell freezes over. Panfilo Lacson is now an endorser of a men’s facial care product! WAPAK!

Seriously though - it looks like the product works since it looks like he’s 10 years younger in the picture, hahaha!

Mar Roxas Tide Commercial

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

What’s a legal and effective way to campaign even before that actual campaign period starts? Be an endorser for a consumer brand. Presidential candidate Mar Roxas teams up with TIDE in this 30 second TVC. It’s actually not done in bad taste seeing as Mar’s persona as Mr.Palengke is clearly communicated.

Expect to see more politicians doing the same in the coming days. I saw Herbert Bautista already on a billboard in Katipunan endorsing Hang Ten. Ping Lacson is also endorsing something (I forgot lang). I’ll try to get copies or pictures and post them here.

Why There Won’t Be People Power

Monday, February 25th, 2008

As long as the Arroyo administration is solidly backed by the PNP and AFP then there’s really a low chance of a revolution like People Power happening. The defection of PNP/AFP leaders was crucial in the first and second EDSA, and it’s the primary reason why EDSA 3 failed miserably.

“Corruption Affects the Youth.” - Caloocan Bishop

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

MANILA, Philippines–Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez Jr. of the Diocese of Caloocan explains that corruption in the government spirals down and affects the youth. In the wake of the national broadband network controversy hounding the Arroyo administration, the Church and youth groups held a candle lighting ceremony and forum at Caritas Manila on February 21, 2008. Video taken by INQUIRER.net multimedia editorial assistant Abigail Kwok.

I agree with the Bishop 100%. All the blatant corruption builds a society of apathy. For the Philippines these days Ignorance is more infectious than nationalism.

MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo Blue Eagles and the De La Salle Green Archers, bitter rivals on the basketball court, are setting aside their differences Sunday as the two Catholic schools come together to offer Mass and support to Senate witness Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada, Jr. and his family.

Bro. Armin Luistro, president of the De La Salle University and former brother provincial of the Brothers, said they expect at least 2,000 people to attend the 10 a.m. Mass at the La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) in Mandaluyong City.

2010 Presidential Survey - De Castro Leading

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

The latest SWS survey on the 2010 potential presidents was published in an article in the Inquirer today (February 14, 2008). Personally, I agree with the results and I believe that 2010 will be about 4-5 people similar to the 1992 Presidential Elections. It won’t be a polarized fight anymore like in 2004 when it was clearly administration versus the opposition (FPJ vs GMA). What’s good to note is that De Castro really doesn’t have a strong lead. It’s anyone’s ball game between the 4 top bets. Check out the survey results after the jump. (more…)
