Incompetence Gets Rewarded in the Philippines

Former Pampanga Governor, Mark Lapid, was recently rewarded by President GMA with the position of Philippine Tourism Authority General Manager. I personally can’t stand this development since the public knows how incompetent the former Governor was. How many times have we read the difference in revenues the Ed Panilio administration has earned in Pampanga compared to the former Governor? It’s so hard to understand why the President would reward incompetent people with better jobs that require more responsibility, competency, and accountability.

It’s a simple principle of management (no offense to present company).

According to Scott Adams, many people often get promoted to higher managerial positions because that’s where they can do the least damage. This principle seems to work even in politics, until you reach the position of president, where suddenly you can do the MOST damage (especially if your nation has a Big Red Button that would invoke mutually assured destruction among nuclear powers).
