Ces Drilon – Dangers of Media

Sometimes we believe that we are superhuman, impervious to any harm or danger. This is especially true when you’re a celebrity or a politician – fame becomes a shield of overconfidence making you think that you’re immortal. I’m just thinking out loud here in response to a recent statement done by Secretary Ermita about Ces Drilon being a convenient victim for the local terrorists. With Abu Sayyaf’s abduction, this sends a pretty clear signal to everyone who are part of the media – you are not invincible.

I am not bashing the industry – I am simply raising a valid point. If you are part of the media and you accept dangerous assignments like this one, then you are putting your career as priority over your family, life, and everything else you hold dear. You sell out on the things that matter most to you for a chance at fame and money but if it doesn’t work out, you will end up getting scarred for life. In your weakest state – you will not think of your money or your career. You will think about your family and all the relationships you will be leaving behind. If you are part of the media, exercise extreme caution and pray for discernment when accepting assignments or following leads. I say this openly since I have a lot of friends in the practice and I want all of them to remember their families and loved ones before they commit to life threatening decisions.

To Ces Drilon, her crew, and companions, I will continue to pray for your safety and well-being. Hopefully though you learn your lesson and end up valuing life more than ever when this ordeal finally ends.
