Got this from Ellen’s blog and this is something very surprising. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines admitted that their actions to support EDSA 2 was a mistake. In fact, they even want to “make up” for it and they went as far as saying that EDSA 2 weakened our political institutions rather than strengthening it. As posted on GMA News Online, Fr. Marinay says that their focus now is to rebuild and strengthen the institutions that EDSA 2 damaged. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
“The current direction of the CBCP to strengthen political institutions to solve and prevent political crises is a kind of a corrective measure of EDSA 2 which weakened political institution in the sense that it did not wait for the verdict of the Senator-Judges in the impeachment case against President (Joseph) Estrada. It did not respect the rule of law. It did not give the duly instituted political institution a chance to assert itself and prove its strength to handle such a political turmoil,” Marinay said in an article posted on the Manila Archdiocese website.
Personally, I never believed in EDSA 2. I believed in the ideals – but never the actions. Let’s face it the truth, EDSA 2 really ignored the rule of law and this paved the way for today’s ignorance of political institutions. The Filipino thinks that he can solve problems by just going to the streets and rallying instead of going through the correct processes.
The real solution to our problem is to be good fathers and mothers to our children. Raise them well, teach them manners, let them know what is right and wrong. Why? Because when it is their turn to lead, then they will do so in a God-fearing and righteous manner. Only then will our country be truly free of traditional politics and corruption.

In the book “The Kite Runner” there’s a phrase I like, “The’s a way to be good again.”
The Catholic Church can use that as an inspiration and rectify their mistake. Okay, they won’t support people power anymore but closing their eyes to the corruption and immorality that Gloria Arroyo promotes among members of clergy is another mistake.
They can join the call for a snap elections and mobilize the church to serve as watchers just like in 1986. The we can have a president who is truly elected by the people.
Correction: There’s a way to be good again.
OH EM GEE!! (The gamer way hehe) They finally admitted their biggest mistake! FINALLY!!! But it is too late…
Well, just like you bro, I never believed in “People Power”, yeah, the ideals, the reasons are “just” but the way is not. PP will only work once, after that it will never work again.
In the first place, PP1 was wrong also, it wasn’t Ferdinand who ordered the assassination (which I believe you also know)… but let’s not get to that.
Sigh, Humanity really have to come to such “nasa huli ang pagsisisi” before we realize our mistakes, noh? Better than nothing I guess. So even though I am not a Roman Catholic, I commend them.
It really comes down to Parents. (Which I am also pointing out when some politicians and NGOs attack games and online games, it’s the PARENTS!!)
