I’ve always been a critic of Senator Lapid and his son, former Governor Mark Lapid. However, we should always give credit where it’s due and Senator Lapid’s first bill which he authored and was passed yesterday was actually one of the better laws I’ve seen. The bill basically gives tax breaks to lawyers and firms who offer free services for poor clients who can’t afford their usual rates. This bill will help a lot of people around the country who need services from lawyers but can’t put up the cash to pay. At the same time, this also rewards firms and lawyers who have been helping the poor by doing free work.
What’s funny though is that Senator Lapid was absent during the deliberation of his bill. According to Inquirer.net, Senator Francis Escudero presided over the debate when this bill was being deliberated. Well, I guess you can’t have everything, hehe.
Congratulations to Senator Lapid and his team for doing a particularly good job on this bill.
And no, I will not stop criticizing you and your son in future blog posts just because of this bill, hehe.
