Miriam Endorsed by GMA

Finally, payback time. Senator Miriam Santiago was recently endorsed by none other than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for a seat in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The President endorsed her during the reception for her at the UN Headquarters in New York while on her state visit to the United States. The fiery senator has firmly defended the administration in almost all of the major issues that came up in the past few years. Ever since she came back to the senate, watching hearings on ANC became a much more livelier experience, hehe.

Here’s the article taken from Inquirer.net:

NEW YORK CITY– President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has endorsed the candidacy of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago for a seat at the International Court of Justice.

In a reception for the United Nations permanent representatives at the UN headquarters here on Thursday (Friday in Manila), Arroyo described Santiago as “independent”, “tough-minded” and a “qualified” candidate for a seat at the ICJ.

The senator is the only female candidate to the 15-member ICJ and if she gets elected this November, she would become the first justice from Asia.

To win the election, Santiago should get the majority vote or 97 of the 192 UN member-states.

And the senator claimed she has already more than a hundred votes.

By the way, I fully support Senator Santiago’s cause to ban political ads as early as now. This includes endorsements with consumer companies. I really hate seeing presidential candidates being plastered on billboards, posters, and tarpaulins along EDSA as early as now.
