Palace: VAT on Oil Stays, No Wage Hike

NEDA Acting Director Santos initially said that the government was open to lowering VAT on oil. However, this was downplayed but none other the Executive Secretary Ermita. After declaring that the VAT would remain on oil, he then went on to announce that there won’t be any wage hikes because “the situation did not warrant it”. So… what the hell is the plan? Will the government just sit idly as prices continue to soar with each week? Instead of saying no to all the proposals being given by other politicians, the government should make public their plans of what we will do in the coming weeks and months to address this crisis.

With the oil prices constantly on the rise, this will affect other sectors as well. Food prices and other basic commodities will also spike. While gas/oil might not be a major issue for other people in this country, I’m pretty sure that price hikes in food will. Lastly, the gas price does impact majority of the people and not just the rich. There’s an impending fare price increase of most public transportations and the MRT operators are also starting to cry out for help due to the massive surge of commuters.

I know that the people in this administration are smart people… so please, show us the battle plan. Assure the country that you guys are on top of the situation.

  2. Yes, the increase in gas prices do affect all social classes but the rich drive SUV gas guzzlers and can still afford to pay the higher gas prices and they won’t go broke either.

So how to help the poor. Not easy to find an answer.

Helping the farmers is the best way to help everyone.
Locally produced food should have smaller transportation costs and leaves more money in the country.

@Rovinna: I agree with you 100%. We should really focus on Agriculture.

You give them way too much credit. Maybe they’re smart, maybe not. But do we really have to dither on this when the sorry state of the country presents itself as hard evidences of their ineptitude.
