Food Trip Episode 1: Gusi’s Restaurant

Bwahahaha. I’ve decided to write about another passion of mine - EATING! I really eat out a lot so I might as well write about the restaurants that I visit. Maybe someday new restaurants will invite me to do reviews about their establishments, hehe. Anyway, for the first episode of Food Trip, I’ll talk about a newly opened place in Timog. It’s along the street of ABS-CBN, Mother Ignacia. It’s called Gusi’s and it’s primarily Filipino themed. We decided to check it out since it’s a new place and they were offering 20% discount. It’s also actually nice to visit newly opened restaurants because they sometimes give you free food and that’s exactly what happened! We got a free appetizer - Longanisa Nachos.

Reviews on the food and the restaurant after the jump. More pictures too.

The Longganisa Nachos tasted really good but there was a problem - it lacked Longganisa meat! If Gusi’s add more meat, then this would be a fantastic dish. The sauce is really something else and the quality of the nachos is just superb. I would definitely recommend this to my friends but they really have to add more Longganisa into the mix. They should also take out the mango bits since it leaves a weird sweet taste in your mouth while you’re eating nachos.

Oh, before I forget, I went there with my girlfriend, Mich, and younger sister, Faith.

Okay, with that out of the way, let’s talk about the other dishes that we ordered.

Sinigang na Baboy

Liempo

The Sinigang was superb. The quality was great and the servings were generous. We weren’t able to finish the entire bowl and we had a lot of meat left over. It was also quite affordable since other restaurants charge more than P250 for this but Gusi’s only charges around P230. What I didn’t like was the Liempo. It tasted great but the servings were a tad too small and there was too much fat and too little of meat. Gusi’s should get a new supplier for their meat products since I really didn’t like how the Liempo turned out.

Over-all, the restaurant is still worth the visit. Our total bill for ordering Liempo, Sinigang, 1 Coke Light, 1 Ice Tea, and Chicken Rice totaled P697.50. That’s already with the 20% discount so it’s actually a bit pricey all in all but then again you rarely find places that have good food with very low prices. Here are my other ratings for the other aspects of the restaurant:

(1 - Lowest, 5 - Highest)
Restaurant Cleanliness: 4/5
Restaurant Theme: 3/5
Customer Service: 5/5
Quality of Food: 3/5
Price of Food: 2/5
Over-all Rating: 3.4/5

At the end of the day the place is above average. I’ll probably drop by again to check out the other dishes but I don’t see myself going here as a regular. They lost me with the Liempo and that one mosquito that just wouldn’t go away from our table (LOL).

The best nachos I ever tasted is from a Pat O’ Briens in Memphis, TN, USA. They were blue corn nachos with LOTS-O-MEAT and other toppings. I haven’t found anything here at home that can match it. I’d like to know if you would recommend any place that has good nachos. Looking forward to “Food Trip Episode 2″
