Government Should Subsidize LPG Conversion

This is in reaction to a published article in today’s issue of Philippine Daily Inquirer entitled “Solons would rather switch to LPG than pay P61/liter”. Basically the article talks about several congressmen endorsing the use of LPG tanks since they claim that it does not pose any hazardous effects to your health. It also is much cheaper than gasoline since it only costs P35/liter as opposed to today’s rates of P61/liter for gasoline. They actually make a lot of sense, especially if the safety of the passengers are really assured if they convert to LPG. However, there’s one problem - it costs more than P70,000 to convert and install the LPG Kit in your car. While our Congressmen may have that much cash lying around, a lot of people certainly don’t have P70,000 to spare!

They would rather use that money to pay for more immediate needs like food, tuition fee, and other necessities in life.

If the government is serious, then they should subsidize the cost of installing LPG tanks in private vehicles. This will really help a lot of people in the middle class who drive cars everyday and are FORCED TO PAY THEIR TAXES THROUGH THEIR SALARIES. What’s worse is we constantly see corruption scandals left and right. That’s our money! Argh. Annoying, ain’t it?

By subsidizing the installation of the LPG kit and launching an information campaign that it’s actually safe, then we might have one concrete program that will help a lot of people with their transportation expenses.

  2. i agree too… 70k is a lot… and the LPG gas tank is too scary to be in your car’s compartment… a little accident can cause a big explosion…

  3. While talking to a cab driver, which I usually do, this became our topic and he said something like the government gets its share when a car’s system is converted to LPG. I don’t know if it’s true and how it works. I failed to ask him why and how since I’m already at my destination.

  4. The government is already subsiding public utility vehicles by giving the operators long term loans.
