OMGWTFBBQ! Senator Panfilo Lacson called the recent letter released by the CBCP “parochial and downright stupid”. If you guys don’t know, the CBCP released a circular asking priests not to give politicians who advocate population management communion. I agree with the church on the point that abortion should still be illegal and punishable by law. It is still an act of murder and I can’t really accept it being commonly practiced in the Philippines.

Overpopulation is a serious problem in our country. If it is not addressed we will breach the 100M mark in 4-5 years. If the church is serious about this issue then they shouldn’t just whine and stop their priests from doing communion.
They should offer a solid alternative that will really help people keep their pants on… or off but still safe nonetheless.
Grabe talaga si Lacson. Sobrang tigas! Ngayon lang ako nakakita ng pulitika na tinawag ang simabahan na bobo. o_o;

Nice post sir wauks!! i actually did lose faith in our church (not in Christ) because of the recent stupidities that CBCP had done… its more of theyre acting for their own benefit and not of the people in which their church revolves around…
masakit man isipin, i dont think they are practicing what they preach…
Go Lacson. This is the kind of GUTS we need for the presidency.
on the contrary, that kind of GUTS should be used properly. simple lang yan e. if you are condoning and encouraging methods that would lead many people to commit sin (i.e. abortion) then you lose the privilege of receiving holy communion.
what’s stupid is his reaction to the whole matter.
Carlo,
I am not a Catholic, but I respect the CBCP’s conviction. How could the church condone such murder of those innocent babies by giving communion to those who claim to be Catholic but do not obey what this church doctrine requires, which I believe is biblical. You can’t pick and choose! If Senator Lacson doesn’t like the church’s decision, then he’s free to create his own religion, and free to become his own god. Gosh, this is what happens when people, like him, pick and choose what they want to believe. They think they’re wise, but become foolish in God’s eyes. Where on earth are we heading? Freedom is not doing what we want, but doing what is right based on a “Higher Authority”(God of the Scriptures)who determines biblical morality. Watching Philippines news on ANC via Direct TV, I was so shocked how homosexuality is portrayed on Philippine Television media without social stigma. As much as they are to be respected as human beings created by God, I am saddened to notice that Filipinos seem to be having so much fun, making fun of those homosexuals on TV. Here in the States, it is not as prevalent, I think. In fact, there Christian Ministries whose mission is to help gays to turn their lives around and become what God intended them to be.
God bless the Philippines(and the USA) !
Regards,
Willy
Well, well.. that’s Mr. Super Cop for you. ;p
Hi Willy,
Thanks for the insightful comment. It’s really interesting when you share your thoughts with us in this blog! Anyway, I agree with you with regards to respecting the decision of the church. However, I still believe that they should do more than just give a memo to their priests no to give communion to politicians. Instead they should be agents of change and really do information campaigns on alternative solutions to condoms or other safety measures that they’re against.
For example, out of the millions of pesos that they get from collections, how much is budgeted for information campaign about the rhythm/natural method on safe sex? Even if they don’t have the cash, I’m sure they can get sponsorships from various institutions to help them with the advocacy.
Lastly, I agree with you on the point that homosexuals are being treated as circus clowns on television. That’s not just the case though. If you watch the noontime shows, women are also portrayed as really sexual objects and this is very demeaning as well.
Makes you wonder what the MTRCB is doing.

Rather than let this devolve into some argument over morality and beliefs (we each have our own, no matter what some people may claim), I’ll stick with the issue at hand. We need more politicians to tackle the issues that keep our country poor and struggling, and overpopulation is definitely one of them. If it takes lambasting a major organization’s incorrect opinion on it to make a point, then it should be done. Lacson shouldn’t be the only one doing this.
No, it’s not just abortion we’re talking about here. Abortion ends up becoming a gruesome option when there is no attempt at contraception, or when contraception fails.
Jerome, if they truly practice what they preach, then it’s part of their responsibility to act as stewards, as the Scripture mentions, “shepherds” of their “flock”, the people. I think that they should involve themselves in politics (which inevitably involves the welfare of its constituents), if they truly want to lead their followers by example. That’s how I understand the whole issue about the Church and politics really.
Now, as for how the Church has been doing so far, and with this latest update… Well, they need to work on the whole “shepherding” issue a *bit* more.
However, I’m not exactly a fan of religion though, with its “holier-than-thou”, “exclusive elite club” mentality. It’s *spirituality* that people are supposed to be focused on, and not religion and dogma. But that’s another topic, for another day, hehehe!
i have nothing to say… but lacson called the instrument of god stupid? OMG
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
@Rocky: I couldn’t agree more. There are a lot of people who are actually on Lacson’s side on this issue but there are also a lot of the side of the CBCP. It makes for interesting discussion, hehe.
@Kamiyu: Also agree with you man. It would have been better if the Church focused on actually helping the poor as opposed to doing their own media/PR blitz.
Obviously you guys are not active in your local parish. Then you should know that they are reaching out especially to the poor. Maybe you haven’t noticed it because they could only do so much with the manpower they have mostly composed of old folks whom some could barely walk themselves. They lack the help of the youth whom I guess was busy playing online games??? I mean if you guys would only volunteer!!!! And don’t expect too much form donations they received. By the way. how much did you donate yourself too expect so much from them??? If you are active in your parish then you’d know that every sent is put to good use. Donations being wasted is just black propaganda. If you don’t believe then go to your parish and ask for an audit and see for yourselves.
And regarding with the family planning issue. They teach their preferred method in their Marriage seminars. If you where married in a church then you should know!!!!! They just didn’t what to teach it to those who are not going to marry because that is simply safe sex outside of marriage, which is against their teaching. Speaking of the practice what you preach thing. Yes they do!!! As much as they could they do buy they’re human as well, you didn’t expect them to be free of sin do you?? It is clear that you guys lack the information about the Catholic Church because you view them from the outside and not from within where you belong as Catholics. Be active in your parish at nang MALIWANAGANG LAHAT ANG INYONG MGA PAG IISIP.
@Taong Grasa: The problem is perception. The more they keep releasing circulars like the one I said above and the less they talk about the actual help they do, then the more negative their reputation will be. With regards to Marriage seminars, I agree you have a solid point there however I strongly believe and stand by my opinon that they should go out of just doing business as usual and try to educate everyone else on the natural/preferred method. It can’t be limited to just their marriage seminars.
First, it is not the church’s way to brag about the good things they do.
The church’s family planning education is not limited to its marriage seminars it is readily available to every one who will seek it, just to go to any local parish and they’ll be glad to help. They just couldn’t afford and have the manpower to go house to house. Believe it or not the church really wanted to educate the lay people of the church their preferred way of family planning as much as they want to. But the church really lacks volunteers.
Now on my own opinion, I think the public is not as ignorant as we claimed they are. They are aware of the church preferred method but they would not accept it because it includes ABSTINENCE which many can’t handle. So no matter how much information campaign the church do if the people themselves lack the discipline then it’s useless.
And on to the proposed bill regarding family planning I suggest that you guys read it in whole then maybe you’d understand the church’s reactions regarding the matter because there are some parts of that bill that I bet you guys would also disagree.
And to Sen. Lacson, if he is dismayed with the church’s reaction, he should have express himself accordingly. He is after all an educated person.
Does anybody else here thinks that expressions through the teachings of ones religion STUPID? The good senator should apologize not publicly but at least in one of his prayers.
@Taong Grasa
Point well taken bro. I agree with you on most of your statements above but my only problem with it is that the Church’s actions will only protect and cover those that go through their seminars and sacraments. The sad reality is that majority of the population does not have the financial capability or proper education to go through all of that. Yes, the Philippines is pre-dominantly catholic. However most of them are probably outstanding catholics – which means when they’re in church they’re out… standing. I myself was guilty of that when I was still part of the catholic community.
Overpopulation is not a major problem by A,B, or even C. It’s mostly in lower C, D, and E. I’m willing to bet that majority of the families there are not married and don’t have a clue on what the rhythm method is all about. There should be an effort to reach out and they should consider reallocating their budget if there’s a need to do so.
I agree with you on Senator Lacson though. He should have carried himself with more dignity and shouldn’t have let his emotions get the best of him especially with this issue. He can kiss all church endorsements in 2010 goodbye, lol.
Some of our priests (especially the high ranking ones) still seem to be living on the Spanish colonial era. Obsolete thinking.
I have no love for the church and especially the people who run it. Instrument of God? Nowadays, I don’t believe it. I don’t need a bunch of preachers (who can be easily corrupted) to make me believe a God exists.
For me, the real “instrument of God” is not the church, but the ability of a person to believe.
religion is the opium of the people?-carl marx?
“Pray and go to church more often” yan sasabihin nila. Para mas marami sila makukuha sa collections.
@raGe_2k7
@Master Diwa
@Para sa lahat
