Rainy Week Ahead – Signal Number 2 in N. Luzon

PAGASA recently announced that a new storm is on it’s way to the Philippines. “Helen” is currently moving towards Northern Luzon and it’s mainly causing the intermittent rains that we’re getting in Metro Manila. It’s advisable that you guys bring a small umbrella or a jacket with you when you go to work. There’s always a chance that there will be rain showers allthroughout the week due to “Helen”. This early, let’s all pray for the safety of everyone in North Luzon, particuarly those in Cagayan, Isabela, and Calayan Islands. The storm is expected to land in Cagayan Wednesday morning. The storm maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center with gusts of 85 kilometers per hour, the state weather bureau said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.

Signal number 2 (60 to 100 kilometer per hour winds) remains over the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela, and in the Calayan Islands, while signal number 1 (30 to 60 kilometer per hour winds) has been raised in the provinces of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Aurora, PAGASA said.

Moving westward at five kilometers per hour, the storm was forecast to be at 140 kilometers northeast of Aparri town, Cagayan province by Wednesday morning, 70 kilometers west of Basco town, Batanes by Thursday morning, and 340 kilometers northwest of Basco by Friday morning, it said.

The storm will enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains to Luzon, mainly on the western section, PAGASA said, as it warned residents in low-lying areas against landslides and flash floods, residents in coastal areas against big waves.
