Senator Roxas on Removing VAT on Oil Products

I was recently invited to join a group on Facebook which basically aims to lobby for the removal of the VAT on oil products. This was one of the videos that was uploaded and it pretty much sums up all of the major points why the VAT should be temporarily taken out. The video is about the main proponent of this movement, Senator Mar Roxas, in an interview on “Umaga kay Ganda”.

SENATOR MAR ROXAS ON REMOVING VAT ON OIL

His main points really rally around the fact that in terms of government revenue targets for oil VAT, we’re already so far beyond the original forecast because of the increase of the prices of oil. There’s an abundance of money that’s already there for revenue collection purposes. That money should be more than enough to fund the so called “pro-poor” programs that the government is coming up with.

However, with the blatant corruption we have in this country, pro-poor programs is just another term for kickbacks.

removing or temporary suspending e-vat will only bring more burden to the filipino people as it will result to unfunded social programs.

I’m against the removal of VAT on oil. Sayang, I expected more pa naman from someone as smart as a Mar Roxas. If it generated the targeted revenue for this year then maybe it should be just SUSPENDED for the rest of the year.
Sayang naman yung kikitain ng gobyerno in the coming years.

And for Sen. Roxas, I think he’s trying to sell himself too much as a presidentiable for 2010. its becoming to look obvious as if it is his priority right now. I mean, our country was never lack of serious problems but where was he the last few years? Maybe he’s doing his job, even doing it well, the last few years but he is not as visible like recently.
