Mike Defensor Under Fire for Mining Deals
TEAM UNITY Senatorial Candidate and former Presidential Chief-of-Staff Mike Defensor is under fire from various senators and NGOs for his recent involvement in the closing of deals between his company and various Chinese investors. This came about when President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo herself was present during the signing of the contract. Her presence alone is an endorsement of the company which is owned by a key political ally and former cabinet secretary. It’s like saying to potential investors - “Put your money here, the President is backing me up.”
I find this bit of news very disappointing because I’ve always had high respects for Mike Defensor. We had him as a guest speaker in several events in the Ateneo when I was still in High School and College. I always had fun listening to him - he was one of those few bright young minds that you hoped would change the country someday.
For what it’s worth, I’m not dropping support yet for Mike. I just pray that nothing bad is really happening under the table in these deals his making because he’s throwing away a good political legacy if he is guilty.

one shoudnt’ only be judged by his words, but by his actions too.
mike maybe charming, but his actions are peeling off the veneer he had covered his true ugly self up.
