“Bayani will change this country.” – Manong Taxi Driver

I took a cab today since I was color coding. I enjoy cab rides a lot especially if the driver is talkative and is in the know when in comes to local politics. I had this fierce debate with the taxi driver I rode with today and I can’t help but blog about the experience. As most of you guys know by now, I’m a critic of MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando. When I was talking with the driver on who he was going to support for 2010, I was really surprised to hear him say the MMDA Chairman’s name. I immediately asked why and he said one line that almost left me speechless – “Bayani will change this country.”

He explained that unlike other politicians, Bayani has tremendous amounts of political will. As long as it is the right thing to do, Bayani will take whatever means necessary to achieve his objective. I think that’s the reason why a lot of people hate his guts – precisely because he gets the job done regardless of the cost.

I probed Manong Taxi Driver some more with questions and apparently he lives in Marikina. He relates that initially he was anti-BF, especially when part of his home was torn down because of a sidewalk clearing project. However, he says that he later on appreciates what happened because now what looked like a squatter’s area now has roads that can rival those of subdivisions.

“Ang maganda kay Bayani disciplina. Wala ako paki kung maging color pink ang manila basta may disciplina ang mga tao. Pwede tayo maging mini-Singapore niyan!” says Manong Taxi Driver.

While I strongly disagree with turning the entire city pink, I have to agree with one statement – Bayani CAN change this country. The question is if it will be for the better or for worse.

    disiplina my foot.

peeing in public is ugly (not to mention smelly). how can metro be gwapo when you have completely sexist urinals on the sidewalks with nothing but the rain to clean them? what about the women? bayani is perpetuating an ugly (not to mention smelly) filipinoism.

and i hate his blasted u-turn slots. they’re downright dangerous! and completely backfires once rush hour sets in. his traffic scheme is completely anti-commuter and pro-private car user, re: elitist.

btw, did you enjoy how much money he wasted on his pink line campaign? most of the pink lines in high traffic and pedestrian areas are all gone, faded into obscurity. and those that remain, well, have no use for pink lines because they don’t have pedestrians!

sorry for double post but forgot to say:

manong taxi driver has a fat proviso: as long as it’s the right thing to do.

    well, who watches the watchmen?

well Bayani is really an incredible leader.. if you read about everythin that he has done and how he made marikina better you would be very much surprised on how skilled he is in leading…

I don’t find the u-turn slots dangerous.. it’s actually a very nice idea In My Honest Opinion

People usually hate Bayani because he made those banners and because of his guts..

Well I think his banners are reasonable since he isn’t as well known to people as other politicians.. and I don’t believe that he produced all thos banners with the money of the people.. I believe that is just a conspiracy theory formed by people… why? Because you can clearly see bayani spending tons of money for his projects that I don’t think he can actually spend hundreds of thousands to make those many banners without losing funds.. some may argue that he overprices his projects to make those banners but I don’t think so since first of all because he still hasn’t been properly accused of doing so.

And about his guts… well leaders need to have guts.. they are supposed to be the leaders of the country.. if they can’t impose their will on their country they are nothing but slaves to the country.. they won’t do anything properly for the Filipino People that way.. a person without hard will and immense guts should not be a leader…

Filipino people really should learn to trust their leaders.. not trusting your own leaders leads to downfall.. just like in games.. don’t trust your GM and your guild fails miserably.. having a corrupt leader who is doing their job well is better than having an uncorrupt leader who can’t do his job

I agree. BF is a rare breed. He is qualified. But, ultimately its the majority votes casted that will decide. BF, Gibo, CJ Puno are the best candidates.
